City officials said two major projects in Cranbrook’s 2022 capital works program are finished, with another major project nearing completion in the next few weeks.
According to city officials, the paving program and the Mount Royal Phase 2 reconstruction are complete, with the 4th Street North reconstruction set to wrap up by the end of July.
“Curb, gutter and sidewalk have been installed, and the multi-use asphalt path prep is finished. Paving of the pathway is to begin July 14,” said city staff. “Roadway grading and prep is well underway with the paving of 4th Street North expected to start July 15 or 16. The final landscaping work and cleanup will follow shortly after.”
Meanwhile, contractors are preparing lagoon cell one and the overall site with crew and equipment locations.
Some of the work on the sewage lagoons began on Monday.
“The contractor is actively removing the diffusers and the lateral lines in cell 1 to make room for the desludging operations,” said city officials. “Bypass piping installation should begin in middle to late August. The public is reminded that the odour around the lagoon site may be much more noticeable once the actual desludging work starts.”
Work on the 15th Avenue and 1st Street Joseph Creek Rehabilitation project is set to start on Monday, with work conducted by Gally Equipment Services. The project will start with the removal of invasive golden willows.
“Removal work will be followed closely by the channel reconstruction and the box culvert bridge replacement. Planting and staking the project with native plant species will happen in the early fall,” said Cranbrook staff.
