Sparwood publishes 2022 Livability Report Card

Sparwood’s 2022 Livability Report Card has been released, highlighting the need for more housing in the community.

Mayor David Wilks said the results from the study will be used in future decision-making.

“We look at it through the lens of our official community plan (OCP) and see how we can tweak it to better reflect and improve livability in Sparwood,” said Wilks. “It’s a living document and it will continue to evolve as we move forward.”

The study helps the district determine its strengths and weaknesses that it will aim to improve or build on.

“One of our weaknesses is affordable housing and housing in general. We’re having a really challenging time keeping up with the demand for housing, especially with Teck and the amount of employees they want to bring in,” said Wilks. “People also want to see us continue with amenities being available to them.”

The results of the survey can be found through the link below.

“We’re quite pleased with the results of the livability study. It painted a pretty good for the District of Sparwood presently,” said Wilks.
