Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the East Kootenay, Elk Valley and Kootenay Lake on Tuesday.
Environment Canada officials said the alert was issued for a large part of central and southern B.C.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” said officials with the forecasting agency.
Environment Canada issues a severe thunderstorm watch when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that has the potential of producing large hail, damaging winds and/or torrential rain.
Residents are advised to stay inside when thunderstorms are active.
