Cranbrook city council has postponed the third reading of proposed zoning and bylaw amendments for the Wildstone Heights development On Echo Field.
According to city staff, the developer aimed to build about 582 mixed-density dwelling units on the plot of land adjacent to the Wildstone golf course.
The developer sent in an application to amend the official community plan to change the land use designation of the property, with hopes to facilitate rezoning and future construction.
City staff noted that the advisory planning commission (APC) recommended approving the OCP and zoning amendments, but council voted three in favour and two opposed.
APC officials said they have significant concerns regarding traffic and potential impacts on Echo Field Road and surrounding areas.
“City planning and engineering staff have been and are currently working with the applicant and their engineers to address technical matters of the development including servicing, transportation and other civil engineering matters,” said city staff.
The application has been referred to the Ministry of Transportation for comments and will come back for a third reading at a later date.
