Most of Cranbrook’s capital works projects underway

Construction crews are busy in Cranbrook, with most of the city’s 2022 capital works projects in full swing.

City officials said the deep utility installation of new water, sanitary and storm sewer is finished on 4th Street North. It is now operational and residents in the area are now receiving water through the new water main.

The installation of new streetlights is also well underway, with work expected to wrap up by the end of this week.

Officials said construction on the road base is also nearly finished, with concrete curb preparations underway. They add that the 4th Street North project is set for completion ahead of schedule.

Meanwhile, new underground pipe work in the PVR location at the entrance to Wildstone is finished, along with the new building foundation and pouring of the concrete slab.

City staff said all above-ground piping and commissioning of the station are set for completion later this month or in early July.

“Residents in that area can expect some minor single-lane alternating traffic delays during the installation of curb and sidewalk. Dates for this work to be done are being determined. The public will be advised once these dates have been confirmed,” said Cranbrook city staff.

City staff said water will be shut off in the late summer or early fall to safely remove the old building and underground piping. Residents will be reminded of the upcoming shut-off well in advance.

Work on sewage lagoon 1 is set to pick back up, as city staff is preparing to meet with the contractor to plan the staging work needed for the project.

“Staff is waiting on the delivery of materials to the site, with the contractor to begin site mobilization mid to late June,” said City staff. “The City is waiting on the provincial approvals in order to start this project.”

City officials said work on the 15th Avenue and 1st Street South Joseph Creek Rehabilitation project is scheduled to start on July 15th.
