East Kootenay sandbagging locations:
A number of self-fill sandbag stations have been set up around the region in preparation for spring freshet and rising water levels. You will have to bring your own shovel and gloves.
- Fernie:
- Railway Avenue and Ridgemont Avenue (next to TJ’s Autobody).
- Main Sewage Lift Station parking lot off Mt. McLean Drive at Mt. Trinity.
- West Fernie – intersection of Riverside Drive and McLeod Avenue.
- Hosmer:
- Empty lot south of the Elk River Inn.
- Sparwood:
- Englemann Spruce Drive, past Mainroad Yard/Fire Hall #1.
- Fairmont Hot Springs:
- Old barn by Mountainside Golf Clubhouse, Hot Springs Road.
- Cranbrook:
- Cobham Avenue by Public Works Yard.
- Canal Flats:
- Beside the Village Office, across from the fire hall.
- Windermere:
- Firehall back parking lot.
Officials with the Regional District of East Kootenay said sandbags should be half to three-quarters full with the ends folded over for the best compaction and effectiveness.
