Construction crews are gearing up to resurface over 450 kilometres of highway and side roads across B.C.’s southern interior this year.
A total of 14 construction projects will get underway in the coming months across the region.
In the East Kootenay, Crews will be paving Highway 3 to Wardner Road to Caithness Road, east of Cranbrook.
B.C. government officials said this work will include some side roads and encompass a total of 36 kilometres of work.
This project is expected to wrap up in October.
According to the B.C. government, about $113-million will be invested into resurfacing southern Interior highways this construction season.
“As we continue our recovery from the dramatic effects of recent climate-related events, maintaining road infrastructure is more important than it’s ever been,” said Rob Fleming, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “Resurfacing projects provide good-paying jobs, protect our vital transportation corridors and ensure people and emergency services can get where they need to go.”
Drivers are asked to use caution around construction zones.
Drive BC will have details about traffic impacts on its website.
