Complaints about an odd odour and taste in the City’s water supply have been reported, which Cranbrook officials said is a regular concern for this time of year.
According to the City of Cranbrook, the taste and smell of the community’s drinking water is a result of the high temperatures and a drop in water levels at Phillips Reservoir.
However, the City said this is not a public health concern or a safety hazard.
“This situation is common in many drinking water reservoirs across North America. It is not a health concern if disinfection treatment systems continue to operate,” said Jason Perrault, Public Works Manager with the City of Cranbrook. “Our operations staff continue to conduct a robust water quality monitoring program and would inform the public if there were any health concerns related to water quality.”
With little rain in the forecast, Cranbrook remains on Phase 2 water restrictions.
“Even-numbered properties may water on Thursday and Sunday. Odd-numbered properties may water on Tuesday and Saturday, with no watering on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays. Outdoor water use is only allowed from 4:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on your watering day,” said City officials.
