Three administrators are stepping into new roles at Cranbrook’s various elementary schools, as either Principal or Vice-Principal.
School District 5 announced the promotion of Chris Catherall, formerly the Vice-Principal of Highland Elementary, who is now the new Principal at Steeples Elementary for the new school year.
Seeing as Catherall is leaving his position at Highland, SD5 said that Christie Johnson will be stepping in as the school’s new Vice-Principal.
Lastly, with Catherall taking the lead position at Steeples Elementary, outgoing Principal David Martin is now the Principal at Gordon Terrace Elementary.
All three administrators have over decades of experience in public education, spending the majority of their careers within School District 5.
Born in Kamloops, Catherall has spent the majority of his life in Cranbrook, dedicating 23 years to public education, 21 of which were with SD5.
“Steeples school is blessed with an exceptionally knowledgeable and passionate group of teachers and support staff,” said Catherall. “I look forward to working with them and adding my support to the amazing projects that are currently happening at the school. I’m also very excited to get to know the students and the rest of the school community.”
Kimberley’s David Martin has worked with School District 5 for 23 years, spending 25 years of his career in public education, noting that he’s excited to now take on a large school population than his previous position at Steeples.
“I’m excited to get to know the students, staff and parent community of Gordon Terrace and being a resource for teachers and support staff to continue all of the wonderful work that’s taking place there.”
Born in Calgary, Christie Johnson was raised in Whitefish, Montana but returned to Canada to begin teaching in public education, as her entire 23-year career has been spent with SD5.
“I’m excited to take on a leadership role; everyone has been so welcoming at the school, and I’m looking very forward to getting to know the students and school community and working collaboratively with staff to support the wonderful work they are currently doing at Highlands,” said Johnson.
Frank Lenton, Board Chair of School District 5 said that the new Principals are “excellent additions” to their schools, also believing that Johnson will be strong fit as Vice-Principal at Highland Elementary.
