Winnipeg Ice sold, moving to America

The team that was once known as the Kootenay Ice has been sold again and will now move to Wenatchee Washington.

The team moved from Cranbrook to Winnipeg in 2019.

One of the stipulations from the Western Hockey League for relocation was that a new arena needed to be built.

That never happened and the team played at the University of Manitoba rink.

The Ice had success on the ice making it to the WHL Final, but had the lowest fan attendance with 1649.

The team has been sold to David White of the California-based Shoot the Puck Foundation.

He is also the owner of the Wenatchee Wild of the BCHL.

The Ice were a staple in Cranbrook from 1998-2019. During their tenure, the team won the WHL championship and Memorial Cup in 2002 and also won league titles in 2000 and 2011.
